About the Role:
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our supportive team at a well-established secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate or someone looking to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a career in teaching, particularly those interested in applying for a PGCE or other teaching qualifications.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain on task, manage their behaviour, and complete set work in a safe and productive environment. You will play a key role in supporting students' learning and development, helping to maintain a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage classes of students in the absence of the class teacher
Ensure students remain engaged with the work set and follow instructions
Support students in their learning by providing guidance and assistance where appropriate
Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning environment
Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and any issues that arise during cover lessons
Assist with administrative tasks and preparation of teaching resources as required
Support the wider school community by participating in school events and activities
The Ideal Candidate:
A graduate in any subject area (preferably related to education or a subject taught in secondary school)
An interest in pursuing a career in teaching and/or applying for a PGCE
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a classroom effectively
A positive, enthusiastic approach to working with young people
Ability to remain calm and organised, even in challenging situations
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Previous experience working with young people (in any capacity) is beneficial but not essential
