Carbon Reduction Plan
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Aspire People is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Organisational profile used for this plan
This Carbon Reduction Plan is based on an average UK education-sector recruitment agency profile, aligned to Aspire People’s operating model: 7 physical office locations, approximately 100 staff, and 8 company vehicles used to visit schools on average 3 days per week.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: January 2024 (Year 1)
Additiona details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations:
Figures are estimated using an activity-based approach (fuel, electricity and typical travel/commuting patterns) consistent with the GHG Protocol and the UK Government GHG conversion factors for company reporting (latest available at the time of calculation).
Scope 3 includes business travel, employee commuting and purchased goods & services (including recruitment software/IT), as these are typically the largest sources for an office-based recruitment business.
Actual emissions will vary based on mileage, vehicle types, office energy intensity, hybrid-working patterns, and supply chain spend; the first full year of measured data will be used to refine the baseline.
Baseline year emissions (January–December 2024, estimated):
EMISSIONS | TOTAL(tCO2e) |
Scope 1 | 42 |
Scope 2 | 26 |
Scope 3 (Incuded Sources) | 120 |
Total Emissions | 188 |
Current Emissions Reporting
Reporting Year: 2025 (Year 2) – estimated, based on initial reduction measures and improved travel/energy management.
EMISSIONS | TOTAL (tCO2e) |
Scope 1 | 40 |
Scope 2 | 24 |
Scope 3 (Included Sources) | 115 |
Total Emissions | 179 |
Reporting Year: 2026 (Year 3) – estimated, reflecting further reductions such as increased virtual engagement and early fleet transition steps.
EMISSIONS | TOTAL (tCO2e) |
Scope 1 | 36 |
Scope 2 | 22 |
Scope 3 (Icluded Sources) | 108 |
Total Emissions | 166 |
Emissions reduction targets:
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets for UK operations:
Reduce total emissions from an estimated 188 tCO2e (2024 baseline) to approximately 132 tCO2e by 2030 (≈30% reduction).
Reduce total emissions to approximately 75 tCO2e by 2040 (≈60% reduction from baseline).
Achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 (residual emissions reduced as far as practicable and then neutralised in line with recognised standards).
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented:
Reduction in using plastic in merchandise and office consumables where practicable.
Recycling bins in each office location and improved waste segregation.
Adoption of LED lighting and PIR/occupancy controls in offices where feasible.
Increased use of video/telephone interviewing and remote meetings to reduce travel.
Future carbon reduction initiatives
Fleet transition plan: replace vehicles with EVs/ultra-low-emission vehicles as leases renew; install/enable workplace and home charging where appropriate.
Travel policy refresh: route planning, car sharing, rail-first policy for longer trips, and tighter controls on hotel stays.
Energy procurement: move offices to renewable electricity tariffs (where contracts allow) and pursue efficiency measures (HVAC optimisation, smart thermostats, improved insulation where applicable).
Hybrid working optimisation: reduce unnecessary commuting/travel while maintaining service to schools; measure commuting emissions via an annual staff travel survey.
Supply chain engagement: request environmental data from key suppliers (IT/recruitment platforms, telecoms, stationery) and prioritise lower-carbon options.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, and use the appropriate UK Government emission conversion factors for company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors.
