The Secret to Successful Parent Communication in 2025

Let's be honest: talking to parents can sometimes feel like shouting across a noisy room with no one hearing you. But in 2025, keeping parents in the loop is so important - and it doesn't have to be as difficult as it seems.

Want to know the secret? Here's the scoop on how to make parent communication easy, friendly and effective this year.

Meet Parents Where They Are...

Parents are busy people. They are constantly juggling work, kids, and maybe their own hobbies. If you are sending them emails that get lost in a sea of hundreds of others, don't be surprised if they go unread.

Here's a tip: Use tools that parents love- like text or WhatsApp. Short messages are gold, as parents are more likely to read these as opposed to long, dragged out messages. Another thing to avoid is sending lots of newsletters for the students to give to their parents, as we all know these will most likely get lost on the way! Sending messages direct to the parent means they will definitely receive them.

Make It Personal...

Nobody likes a boring, 'Dear Parent' email. Parents just want to hear about their child. Make your messages personalised when possible. Try this: Instead of saying "Your child needs to work harder', say, 'I love how she is asking questions in class. Let's help her keep that up!'.

A little bit of kindness and personalisation go a long way.

Talk With Parents, Not At Them...

Parent communication isn't a one way street, it's a conversation! Ask them questions, listen what they say, use apps where they can reply with their thoughts. Parents want to be involved in their child's education and school life, so let them! This also may help you understand the children better by getting input from the people who know them best.

Respect Different Cultures and Languages...

Families will come from all over the world, which is amazing! This, however, can sometimes make communication difficult because of different languages and traditions.

Be kind and clear. Use simple English if needed, offer messages in different languages if possible, and maybe try and implement some of their traditions in their child's school life! Always remember: respect is the key to positive communication.

Keep Parents in the Loop- Even When It's Good News...

Don't just reach out to parents when there is a problem. Celebrate the wins too! Parents love to feel involved and nothing feels better than being told about one of your child's achievements or learning about something fun they have done in class. Send some quick updates about what is happening in the day, upcoming fun projects, or great things that the kids are doing. This will build a good relationship with you and the parent and will let them see that their child is doing well!

Use Tech, But Don't Forget to Say Hi...

Technology of course is brilliant for quick messages and friendly updates, but nothing beats a real conversation sometimes. When you have a minute, pick up the phone or have a quick chat if you bump into them at the school gates. That human touch will build trust like nothing else!

The secret is about being friendly, clear and honest. When you connect with the parents in a way that works for them, you will build a team that is focused on helping kids succeed!
