Aspire People are looking to appoint experienced and passionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join a highly supportive and thriving team within a well-regarded independent school. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers to support students in small groups or individually, helping them access the curriculum and participate in class activities. Your role will be crucial in promoting the inclusion and emotional well-being of students, building their self-esteem and supporting their social development.
You will also be responsible for supporting students with behaviour management, using strategies to create a positive and productive learning environment. Your ability to provide calm and consistent support will be key in helping students build confidence and develop resilience in their learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students with SEN in accessing lessons, providing individualized support to help them engage with the curriculum and develop essential skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement behaviour management strategies, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.
- Encourage the development of social skills and promote emotional well-being, ensuring that students feel safe, valued, and understood.
Skills and Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least GCSEs (Grade 4 or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEN, in an educational or support role.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to form positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- A solid understanding of SEN needs, including ASD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, and sensory processing issues. Knowledge of how to adapt teaching and support strategies to meet these needs is essential.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting secondary-aged students with a range of SEN.
- Familiarity with therapeutic practices or interventions, such as speech and language support, zones of regulation, or restorative practices.
