About the role
An established school in the Sandwell / West Midlands area is seeking an experienced Minibus Driver to provide a safe, reliable and professional transport service for pupils.
This is a hands-on, operational role. No training will be provided. Applicants must already be confident, experienced and able to start and perform the role immediately within a school environment.
The post also involves supporting Safe and Well home visits and assisting with transport for trips and off-site activities.
Key responsibilities
Student transport
Safely collect pupils from agreed pick-up points each morning and transport them to school.
Transport pupils home at the end of the school day.
Follow agreed routes and timetables, ensuring punctual and reliable service at all times.
School trips and visits
Drive the school minibus for educational visits, off-site learning and school activities during the day.
Support and supervise pupils on trips alongside teaching or designated staff.
Safe and Well visits
Carry out Safe and Well home visits as directed by senior school staff.
Communicate professionally and courteously with parents and carers.
Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately in line with school procedures.
Vehicle safety and compliance
Complete daily vehicle safety checks (fuel, tyres, lights, oil and safety equipment).
Accurately record checks and report defects without delay.
Ensure the minibus is kept clean, roadworthy and fully compliant with legal and school standards.
Follow all transport, safeguarding and statutory driving regulations.
Administrative and support duties
Maintain mileage logs, journey records and basic maintenance documentation.
Support general school transport and pupil movement when required.
Essential criteria
Full, clean UK driving licence.
Proven experience driving a minibus or similar large vehicle.
Strong knowledge of road safety and basic vehicle maintenance.
Ability to manage pupil behaviour calmly and confidently.
Excellent awareness of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
Clear and professional communication skills with pupils, staff and parents.
Reliable, punctual and highly responsible approach to work.
Able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Organised, proactive and able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Empathetic, approachable and committed to supporting pupil wellbeing.
Desirable criteria
Current MiDAS certificate.
Previous experience working in a school or with young people.
First Aid qualification.
Knowledge of the local Sandwell / West Midlands area.
Important safeguarding and compliance information
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
Applicants must already hold an Enhanced DBS suitable for working with children or be willing to obtain one immediately. The cost of the Enhanced DBS will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.
Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and be able to provide satisfactory references.
