Deputy Head of English - About the Role
The successful candidate will support the Head of English in the strategic leadership of the department, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong outcomes and an engaging, inclusive curriculum. You will contribute to the development of departmental initiatives, lead key areas of teaching and learning, and play a vital role in maintaining a culture of high aspiration.
Deputy Head of English - Key Responsibilities
* Support the Head of English in the leadership and management of the English department
* Lead on curriculum development, assessment and teaching strategies across KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable)
* Model outstanding classroom practice, fostering a positive learning environment
* Use data effectively to monitor progress, identify underachievement and plan impactful interventions
* Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to professional development across the department
* Promote high standards of literacy, engagement and progress for all students
* Play an active role in departmental quality assurance, including lesson observations and book monitoring
Deputy Head of English - The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* QTS and strong experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
* A track record of excellent classroom practice and strong pupil outcomes
* Experience contributing to curriculum planning or leading aspects of a department
* The ability to inspire, motivate and support colleagues
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively
* A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations for all learners
