I work with several schools in and around the Coventry area and have been doing so for the past seven years. I am currently recruiting for Cover Supervisors to help me with future supply demand within these schools and would love to hear from you if you have previous experience and have worked as a Cover Supervisor within a secondary school setting.
There are full time, part time opportunities and ad hoc hours available. There are also opportunities with some schools to offer you teacher training if they have a scheme in place . If you decide that you would like to make the step into teaching this is a really good way of doing so and it can often lead to them offering you a role within that school. I have several cover supervisors who have gone on to become fully qualified teachers after training.
Ideally you will hold a degree and be a most confident and extrovert individual and you must have had at least three months experience in a classroom setting or educational establishment. Previous experience within a secondary education would certainly be advantageous.
A Cover Supervisor is likely to be used for short term absences of a teacher in the classroom setting
You will be supervising work that has been set and ensuring this is completed and the pupils are on
Managing the behaviour of pupils
Dealing with immediate problems or emergencies according to school policies
Provide additional support in classrooms
Help out in other duties when needed such as lunch time, registrations, detentions and reception.
Hours are normally from 8.30am to 3.30pm although half days and ad hoc hours are often needed. I can be as flexible as possible so that your work can fit in with other commitments that you may have.
