Aspire People are currently recruiting for a SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a well-respected all-boys secondary school in Bury from September 2025 on a temp-to-perm basis.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in care or SEND, who is ready to step into an educational setting to provide vital support.
About the Role:
You will be working closely with male students who have various disabilities, including wheelchair users, and those who require personal care support. As part of your role, you'll be expected to assist with moving and handling, personal care, and support students in their day-to-day classes and activities, ensuring they can access the curriculum and engage fully in school life. Your experience in care provisions will be highly valued, as you'll bring a wealth of empathy and understanding to this important role.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on the education and well-being of students who need additional support, all while working within a supportive and inclusive secondary school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with disabilities, including those who require personal care and assistance with moving and handling
- Support students with a range of disabilities (including physical, sensory, and learning disabilities)
- Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to ensure that students' individual needs are met
- Help adapt and implement learning activities to enable full participation for all students
- Assist with personal care routines and promote independence where possible
- Monitor and track the progress of students, providing feedback where necessary
What We're Looking For:
- Experience and/or qualifications in moving and handling (essential)
- Previous experience working in care provisions (such as a SEND specialist provision, residential care or adult care) is highly desirable
- Experience in a school setting is an advantage, but not a requirement - we welcome applications from those with care backgrounds
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students
- Ability to work well within a team and demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of students
- An up-to-date DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
