Job description
Aspire People are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Shrewsbury, providing support to pupils with a broad range of special educational needs (SEN). This full-time, long-term position will offer you the opportunity to work with children who face unique challenges, including speech, language, and communication needs, medical needs, physical disabilities, social and emotional difficulties, and autism spectrum disorder.As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping students access the curriculum, develop life skills, and gain confidence. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with SEND.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Individual and Small Groups of Students:
Assist pupils with a variety of needs, helping them access lessons and make progress in line with their individual education plans.
Personal Care Assistance:
Provide support with personal care tasks when required, ensuring dignity and promoting independence.
Collaborate with Teachers and Specialists:
Work closely with the class teacher and other support staff to adapt teaching strategies, resources, and activities to suit the needs of each student.
Promote Positive Behaviour:
Support students in managing emotions, developing social skills, and building positive behaviour through tailored strategies.
Encourage Independence:
Help students develop their confidence and independence both in and outside the classroom.
What We're Looking For:
Experience with SEND:
Previous experience working with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities is desirable, but not essential.
Empathy and Patience:
A compassionate and patient approach is key when working with children who face a wide range of challenges.
Adaptability and Flexibility:
You will need to be adaptable, as the role requires you to respond to the individual needs of each student and work in a dynamic environment.
Excellent Communication Skills:
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, staff, and parents is essential.
Team-Oriented:
Ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals to support the students.
DBS Check:
An up-to-date DBS check is required (or you must be willing to apply for one).
