Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a variety of additional needs, including but not limited to autism, speech and language delays, learning difficulties, and emotional and behavioral challenges. You will work closely with teachers to deliver tailored interventions, assist with classroom management, and provide one-to-one or small group support to help students engage with the curriculum and develop their social, emotional, and academic skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support to students with SEN, both in the classroom and in small groups or on a one-to-one basis.
Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.
Support students in developing their social and emotional skills, including managing behavior and building confidence.
Help with classroom management, ensuring a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students.
Monitor and track the progress of students, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
Assist in preparing resources and activities to support students' individual learning needs.
Work collaboratively with other teaching assistants, teachers, and external professionals to support students' development.
Contribute to the overall well-being and care of students, fostering an environment where they feel supported and valued.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience working with children, ideally in a primary school or SEN setting.
A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them succeed.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with children who may have complex needs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members.
A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to adapt to the varying needs of the students.
Experience working with children with autism, speech and language difficulties, or learning disabilities would be an advantage.
A relevant qualification, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, is desirable but not essential.
