Salary: £85-£95 per day (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only

Are you experienced in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have a background in psychology or mental health and want to make a real difference in a child's life?
We're working with a vibrant, inclusive primary school in the B12 area looking for a confident, compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team. The role is varied, rewarding, and ideal for someone with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
About the Role
This unique role will involve working across two key areas:
🔹 1:1 Support
You'll be working closely with a college-aged female pupil who is currently placed within a primary setting for her specific needs. She presents with:
Kleptomania and ADHD
Insomnia and trauma background
Challenging language and initial intimidation towards new staff
She is incredibly engaging and kind once trust is built, and needs a calm, emotionally intelligent adult who can offer consistent support and boundaries.
🔹 In-Class Support (Secondary Pathway - Years 7-9)
You'll also be supporting a small class of pupils with a mix of SEMH and mild mobility needs, including those using Zimmer frames, crutches and wheelchairs. You'll work alongside teaching staff to promote independence and inclusion while managing a range of emotional and behavioural needs.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or trauma-informed needs
Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and setting clear, consistent boundaries
Calm, empathetic and patient approach
Mental health experience or qualifications (including psychology, counselling, youth work, etc.)
Resilience, strong communication skills and a good sense of humour!
Desirable:
Psychology degree or background
Experience supporting mobility or physical needs in a classroom setting
Experience in secondary or alternative provision environments
Level 2/3 TA qualification is not required, but relevant mental health experience is essential.
What the School Offers
A welcoming and supportive staff team
A well-structured and nurturing environment for pupils with complex needs
Ongoing CPD and training opportunities through Aspire People
The chance to build meaningful, long-term relationships with pupils who need it most
