Job Title: Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN)Location: SEN School, Leicester
Position: Full-Time/Part-Time
Salary: £95-£100 per day
Job Summary: Our partnered SEN school in Leicester are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will hold a degree in Psychology/Education or a related field and have substantial experience and knowledge working with children with severe learning difficulties. This role could involve supporting both primary and secondary-aged students with high needs, contributing to their educational and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
Individual and Group Support: Provide tailored support to students with severe learning difficulties, both individually and in small groups, to facilitate their engagement with the curriculum and promote their academic and social progress.
Behavior and Emotional Support: Utilise your psychological expertise to support students' emotional and behavioral needs, implementing strategies to manage challenging behaviors and fostering a positive learning environment.
Educational Assistance: Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson plans and educational materials to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in the learning process.
Assessment and Monitoring: Assist in the assessment of students' needs and progress, contributing to the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other relevant documentation.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and other professionals, providing updates on progress and addressing any concerns in a supportive and empathetic manner.
Record Keeping: Keep accurate and confidential records of students' progress, behavior, and any interventions used, reporting significant observations and developments to the SENCO or other relevant staff.
Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in SEN education and psychological support, applying new knowledge and techniques to your role.
Key Requirements:
Education: A degree in Psychology/Education or a related field is essential. A background in education would be advantageous.
Experience: Demonstrable experience working with children with severe learning difficulties, including a deep understanding of psychological theories and practices relevant to SEN.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent communication, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of SEN policies, procedures, and best practices, with a particular focus on psychological approaches to supporting children with high needs.
Personal Attributes: A compassionate, patient, and resilient individual who is adept at handling challenging situations and committed to making a positive impact on students' lives.
Desirable Qualifications:
Additional training or experience in specific SEN areas such as autism spectrum disorders, severe behavioral issues, or advanced psychological interventions.
Working Hours:
This position can be either full-time or part-time. Working hours will be down to your availability.
