Job description
PMLD SEND Teaching Assistant - North LiverpoolWe are looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals to join our team in a specialist SEND school in North Liverpool. If you have a genuine passion for supporting children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), we want you to be part of our close-knit team. Together, we help pupils with complex needs - including sensory, physical, medical, and communication challenges - to access learning, build trust, and experience joy every day.
What the Role Involves:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to children with the most complex needs. Every day is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference:
One-to-one and small-group support in the classroom to help pupils engage with learning.
Assisting pupils with personal care, including toileting and changing.
Supporting children with mobility and physical needs, including wheelchair transfers and the safe use of hoists (training will be provided).
Helping to deliver sensory-based learning activities, designed around each child's individual plan.
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to ensure every child is safe, comfortable, and included in their learning journey.
What We're Looking For:
We are seeking someone with the following qualities and experience:
Experience supporting children or adults with complex physical and learning needs, whether in a school, residential, or care setting.
Knowledge or awareness of conditions such as PICA, PEG feeding, epilepsy, and medical protocols.
Confidence working with wheelchair users and using hoisting equipment safely (training provided if necessary).
A calm, patient, and compassionate approach to providing dignified personal care.
A team player who can adapt quickly, follow care plans, and celebrate every small milestone with students.
Two years' worth of employment references will be required for the role.
What's On Offer:
We offer a rewarding and fulfilling role, with plenty of opportunities for growth and professional development:
Term-time hours - enjoy a great work-life balance, with school hours only.
Local placements across Liverpool, Sefton, and Knowsley - reducing commute times and keeping you close to your community.
Ongoing training, including Team Teach.
The chance to make a real difference in the lives of children with the most complex needs.
Refer a friend and receive up to £250!
Joining fee of £100 when you complete your first 10 shifts!
Who Should Apply?
This role is ideal for individuals with a background in care, healthcare, or special education, or for anyone who has a genuine passion for helping children with the most complex needs reach their full potential. Whether you've worked in a care setting or have personal experience supporting people with SEND, your skills will be highly valued.
"It's not just support - it's connection, care, and communication."
