Job description

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) - Special Education Needs
Telford, Shropshire | Full-Time | Specialist Primary School

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a tangible difference in their educational journey?

If you're someone who thrives on helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential, we have an exciting opportunity for you.

Aspire People is recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant at a specialist primary school in Telford, Shropshire, that caters to children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Physical Disabilities (PD), and Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN). This is an incredible opportunity to join a dedicated team in a school that puts the needs and well-being of its students at the heart of everything it does.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to provide tailored support that meets the individual needs of students, helping them to engage with the curriculum and achieve their best outcomes.
- Adapt teaching strategies and activities to cater to pupils' learning styles and ensure they can access the curriculum in a way that works for them.
- Support students with tasks such as reading, writing, and numeracy, using visual aids, ICT, and other specialist resources as necessary.
- Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment:
- Assist in creating an environment where all pupils feel safe, valued, and included, fostering their emotional, social, and academic development.
- Encourage independence by supporting pupils in completing tasks autonomously, helping them develop confidence in their abilities.
- Work closely with teaching staff to plan and implement activities that promote engagement and inclusivity for all pupils.
- Use positive behaviour management techniques to support pupils in developing social skills and emotional regulation.
- Help students manage and express their emotions appropriately, creating a calm and positive classroom environment.

What We're Looking For:
- Previous experience working with children with additional needs, especially those with ASC, MLD, PD, or SLCN, in a school or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Understanding of strategies to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including behavioural and communication challenges.
- The ability to work with a wide range of students, providing both academic and emotional support tailored to individual needs.
Empathy & Patience: A compassionate and understanding approach, with the ability to stay calm, patient, and positive when supporting children who may display challenging behaviours or require extra help.
- An eagerness to learn and develop new skills in special education, including any relevant training that could enhance your ability to support students.

What the School Offers:
- A welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where each member of the team is valued and respected.
- A strong emphasis on professional development, with opportunities for training in a variety of special educational needs (SEN) areas, including ASC, MLD, and SLCN.
- Supportive leadership and a friendly, collaborative team of staff committed to making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
- A chance to contribute to a truly inclusive school community, where every child's potential is nurtured.

Are You Ready to Make a Difference?
If you have a passion for supporting children with additional needs and want to work in a school that values compassion, dedication, and inclusivity, we would love to hear from you.
