Job Description:
We are looking for a versatile and adaptable General Cover Teacher to join our team at a busy and highly regarded secondary school in Staffordshire. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for covering lessons across a wide range of subjects, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining the high academic standards of our school in the absence of regular classroom teachers.
As a General Cover Teacher, you will need to be flexible, quick-thinking, and have the ability to manage different subject areas and classroom dynamics. This is a perfect opportunity for a teacher who enjoys variety, thrives in different environments, and is committed to providing a high standard of education to students at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing cover for absent teachers across a variety of subjects (from English to Maths, Science, Humanities, and more).
Ensuring that students engage with and complete the work provided by the absent teacher.
Delivering lessons according to the lesson plans provided, adapting as necessary to meet the needs of the class.
Maintaining effective classroom management, ensuring that students follow rules and stay focused on their tasks.
Supporting students with their learning and providing encouragement when needed.
Reporting back to subject departments regarding student behaviour, progress, and any issues that arise during the lesson.
Liaising with other teachers and staff to ensure the smooth running of the school day.
Assisting with administrative duties such as collecting and distributing resources and marking work as directed.
Requirements:
QTS or relevant teaching qualification (although not essential for applicants with significant classroom experience).
Strong classroom management skills with a proactive approach to behaviour.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different subject areas.
Experience working in a secondary school setting is preferred but not essential.
A positive, flexible, and solution-oriented attitude to teaching and student support.
This role offers an exciting challenge, providing the opportunity to engage with a variety of subjects and to develop your teaching skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
