JOB PURPOSE
This role focuses on supporting student well-being and behaviour management to ensure all students can fully access learning and enrichment opportunities. You will help monitor and evaluate pastoral strategies while supporting staff in addressing the needs of children who face barriers to learning, enabling them to reach their full potential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support & Behavioural Intervention
* Build productive, trusting relationships with students and serve as a positive role model
* Provide one-to-one and group mentoring sessions to support student well-being
* Support students with their learning both inside and outside the classroom
* Identify students who would benefit from additional support and develop action plans with colleagues
* Deliver tailored learning interventions for students with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties
* Provide information and guidance to help students make informed choices about their learning, behaviour, and attendance
Behavioural Management & Reintegration
* Support students excluded from normal timetables, including planning their reintegration
* Supervise students during "time away" periods and develop return-to-class strategies
* Lead friendship and social interaction groups to improve student relationships
* Support smooth transitions for students entering or leaving the school provision
Professional Collaboration & Strategy Development
* Work closely with the Pastoral Manager on student transition and induction processes
* Collaborate with staff to plan, evaluate, and adjust learning activities
* Provide feedback to staff on effective strategies for supporting students
* Support the development and monitoring of:
o Behaviour Management Strategies (BMS)
o Education Support and Protection Systems (ESPS)
o Risk assessments
* Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and support sessions
Communication & Partnership Building
* Maintain regular communication with senior leaders about students under your care
* Build constructive relationships with parents and carers, facilitating home-school partnerships
* Exchange information with families to support their child's attendance, access, and learning
* Support home-to-school community links through events such as parents' evenings
* Attend parents' evenings and school events as required
Record Keeping & Safeguarding
* Maintain accurate records and robust tracking systems for all supported students
* Document and measure the impact of your interventions on student progress
* Immediately report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
* Ensure all work complies with Health and Safety requirements
* Attend required meetings and training sessions
Professional Standards & Development
* Engage in appropriate professional development and performance management
* Uphold the school's ethos, vision, and aims
* Maintain high standards of personal integrity and professionalism
* Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
* Undertake additional duties as required to ensure smooth school operations

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Requirements
Experience:
* Substantial experience working with families of students with special educational needs in school or care settings
Skills & Abilities:
* Strong leadership qualities combined with excellent teamwork skills
* Ability to motivate and inspire others
* Deep empathy and understanding of adolescent students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs
* Ability to build confidence in students
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Flexible yet well-organized approach to work
* Crisis management and de-escalation capabilities
* Strong problem-solving skills
Training & Education:
* Level 3 Education qualification
* Commitment to undertake relevant training, including child protection
Personal Qualities:
* Positive and empathetic attitude toward children with special needs
* Flexible approach to work challenges
* Ability to lead while working effectively as part of a team
Desirable Requirements
Experience:
* Experience working with students with Autism and/or mental health difficulties
Training:
* Formal training in care of children/young people
* Autism-specific training
* First Aid certification
* Health and Safety training
* Counselling qualifications
Other:
* Further qualifications in youth management and support
* Valid driving license
Contraindications
* Criminal convictions involving offenses against children or young persons
