Do you have experience working with young people in challenging environments such as youth services, secure units, residential care, or the criminal justice system? Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to support vulnerable children in education?
Aspire People is currently working with a supportive and forward-thinking Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Stockport, Cheshire. We are looking to recruit a compassionate, resilient and confident Behaviour Support Mentor to help pupils with additional and complex needs as they enter the school.
This role is ideal for someone who is ready to take their transferable skills into the education sector and help young people get back on track.
About the Role:
This PRU supports students aged 11-16 who have been excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of exclusion.
Pupils may have:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Challenging or unpredictable behaviour
- Backgrounds involving trauma, care, or instability (including Looked After Children - LAC)
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing consistent 1:1 or small group support
- Helping to manage emotional or behavioural challenges calmly and effectively
- Building strong, trusted relationships with students from day one
- Creating a safe, supportive space to help learners re-engage with education
We're Looking For:
- Experience in a relevant background such as youth work, probation, prison services, or care
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations confidently
- A nurturing, firm, and non-judgemental approach
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and thrive in school
