Nursery Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Down Syndrome Support - SparkhillAspire People are currently recruiting for a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Sparkhill. This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and continuing until July 2027, providing dedicated 1:1 support for a child in Nursery with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a young child with Down syndrome, helping them to access learning, develop communication and social skills, and thrive within the nursery environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Nursery-aged child with Down syndrome.
* Support the child's learning, development, and engagement in daily classroom activities.
* Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO, and other professionals to implement strategies outlined within the EHCP.
* Encourage communication, independence, and positive social interactions.
* Adapt activities and resources to meet the child's individual needs.
* Support personal development and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
* Monitor progress and provide feedback to school staff where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Previous experience working with children in an EYFS or primary setting.
* Experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with Down syndrome or similar developmental needs, is desirable.
* A nurturing, patient, and empathetic approach.
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
* The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider support team.
* A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential.
