Don't get left behind with technology! Feel in the dark about twitter?
Take ten minutes to read through our fast track lesson to getting you set up on your twitter journey.
Benefits of supply teachers using twitter
· Supply teaching can be a lonely business. Twitter is like a virtual staffroom which you can enter when it suits you. In seconds you can access a stream of ideas, opinions and resources. Whether you get inspiration for your next lesson plan whilst making a cup of tea or read about breaking news on the train, its quick and effective.
· Most schools are on twitter, giving supply teachers a wealth of local news at their fingertips.
· Gather a range of opinions and constructive criticism within minutes
· Work smarter not harder. Let other supply teachers share their resources and training materials
· You can get more detailed information and response to questions from your followers than what a standard Google search can provide.
· Supply teachers should be up-to-date with the latest technology that students are using. Teachers need to speak the same language and communicate in the same communities, to help motivate and relate to pupils.
How to use twitter
1. Log onto www.twitter.com and set up your very own twitter account
2. Change your profile picture from the default eggto a photo of your choice
3. Add a biography to your profile, to summarise yourself. If you say you are a teacher then people in the education industry will follow you.
4. Use the search facility to follow other people you find interesting. So if you are following a teacher you will be able to see what they are tweeting on your timeline.
5. Hashtags are short codes used to help keep information on similar topics organised on Twitter. use the # symbol followed by a word or acronym. For example “#Teaching”
6. It is possible to protect your tweets so that only people who you give permission to can follow you and see what you say.
